Professional profile
Dr. Peter Glesk is an experienced surgeon with more than 20 years of experience gained at several clinical sites in Slovakia and abroad. He is a specialist in general and vascular surgery. He has been working in Norway since 2007, while he has held the position of chief physician (primary) of the surgical-orthopedic department of Norsdlassykehuset Lofoten since 2013.
He gained his first surgical experience at the traumatology and later at the surgical department of the district hospital in Brezno and during his stay at the Orthopedic Clinic of the McGill University Hospital in Montreal. Within Slovakia, he also worked at the Clinic of Vascular Surgery of the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases in Bratislava and at the Department of Vascular Surgery at the Žilina Faculty Hospital. For two years, he worked in a managerial position in the Svet zdravia network of hospitals. Here he was primarily responsible for the implementation of processes aimed at increasing patient safety and the control and improvement of the quality of the provided health care.
In Norway, he specializes in general and abdominal surgery. As a specialist in vascular surgery, especially diseases of the venous system of the lower limbs, their diagnosis and treatment. Another important role he performs in clinical practice is the acute management of patients with polytrauma.
He performs clinical activities within the inpatient department, including intensive care of surgical patients. Within the operating rooms, he performs both planned and acute operations for hospitalized patients. Furthermore, he performs a spectrum of procedures within the scope of one-day surgery. These are mainly operations of the gallbladder, inguinal and abdominal hernias and other surgical interventions of general surgery.
In the surgical treatment of diseases of the venous system of the lower limbs, depending on the indication, he uses both modern intravenous techniques and classical surgical methods. His ambulatory practice includes outpatient consultations, including telemedicine consultations. Outpatient and inpatient care for oncology patients is an important component of the department’s activities, which it covers.
As part of his leadership function, he participates in management activities, setting processes and strategies for the development of activities. Last but not least, he pedagogically guides doctors as part of their specialized training, as well as medical students. He actively cooperates with the management of other departments within the hospital and also with other medical facilities within the wider region of Norway.
Dr. Glesk is a member of the Norwegian Medical Society.
