Professional profile
Doctor Peter Šomšák is a renowned psychiatrist and psychotherapist. He completed his studies in general medicine at the JLF of the Comenius University in Martin. He completed his entire specialization studies in the German Republic, where he also completed it in 2011.
He started his professional career immediately after completing his studies in Slovakia. He later worked at the Hans-Prinzhorn-Klinik in Germany, where he subsequently worked stably as a secondary physician in the department of special psychiatry (mental retardation, developmental disorders), the department of addictions, the department of geronto-neuro-psychiatry, the department of acute, general psychiatry and finally in the department subacute, general psychiatry. Subsequently, he continued to work as a secondary doctor and, after completing the specialization exam in the field of psychiatry and psychotherapy, as a deputy head at the Euregio-Klinik Nordhorn clinic, where, among other things, he also supervised the work of secondary doctors in the psychiatric follow-up care department. In Nordhorn, he later became the head physician of the psychiatric clinic. He also served as deputy mayor, primarily responsible for the outpatient clinic in a general hospital with a psychiatric ward and day psychiatric inpatient unit in the town of Hollabrunn in Lower Austria. He also ran his own non-state psychiatric clinic in the center of Vienna. From July 1, 2020, he worked as the director of the newly established Department of Mental Health of the Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic with an emphasis on planning and implementing reforms in the field of mental health in Slovakia. Dr. Šomšák currently works in his own non-state clinic in Lower Austria.
